Are Adult Diapers Right For Me? Adult diapers are typically the preferred style for those with their mobility in tact and for individuals who are caring for themselves. If you’re seeking a product for your own incontinence care needs or purchasing it for someone who is relatively active, a diaper style is our recommended solution. These are often called a “pull-on” style as well.
On the contrary, if you are caring for a loved one or someone who has limited mobility, or who may be completely immobile, we recommend considering one of our brief-style diapers with tabs. The tab style briefs are easier to custom fit when putting on, and easy to tear apart at the side-seams when it is time for changing.
Which Adult Diapers Works Best for Me? There are a wide variety of adult diaper styles to fit every individual’s body and every unique need. This way you’ll always have exactly what you need to keep skin dry and guarantee comfort and protection. Here are some tips for choosing the right adult diaper:
Swim diapers offer protection at the pool or at the beach. They can be worn discreetly underneath a swimsuit. We offer Swimmates, which assist with bowel incontinence to keep the pool and bathing suit free of accidents; they are designed to have minimal swelling and do not break apart.
Plus-size diapers offer a comfortable, stretchy fit for larger individuals. We offer styles that fit up to 5XL.
Youth diapers provide extra urinary and bowel protection for children who are still potty training, experience nighttime accidents or need a little extra support.
Extra absorbency for those with heavy leaks and full bladder releases. We recommend shopping the Tranquility brand, which offers the most absorbent diapers on the market. They offer both an overnight and daytime disposable underwear to provide 24/7 protection.
Tab-style briefs are designed to contain both urinary and bowel incontinence. There are many benefits of using adult diapers with tabs. From flexible material options to ease of changing, diapers with tabs are a good choice for those with urinary, fecal or mixed incontinence. For those who are immobile and unable to change their brief themselves, the tabs are particularly helpful for caregivers with the responsibility of replacing the product. The micro-hook closure tabs are adjustable and can be opened and re-closed for you or those in your care to find the right comfort and fit.
Additionally, tab-style briefs are available in either a poly (plastic) backsheet or a clothlike backsheet for added comfort and breathability. The different materials both have their advantages, but overall, the choice of which material is best for those with incontinence comes down to personal preference.
Many brands of briefs are also fitted with a wetness indicator, which provides a visual indication of when the product has collected a void, has reached capacity and is ready to be changed. An example of this feature is a dual wetness indicator, which is a line down the center of the product in the pelvic region that will turn from yellow to blue when moisture is present. This helps to not only protect the skin from long-standing moisture, but also eliminates unnecessary changes and reduces overall costs for wearers and caregivers.
Tranquility Incontinence Products has a handy sizing guide that contains measuring information for both briefs with adjustable tabs and pull-on underwear. This sizing guide provides measuring instructions for the waistband dimension, as well as tips and visuals to indicate when the product may be either too large or too small for an individual's stature.
Specifically for adult diapers with re-fastenable tabs, the brief should fit snugly with the placement of the tape tabs on the front of the hip bones and no gaps around the legs. Gaps around the legs can lead to leakage, and nullify the leakage protection features of the diaper entirely. If the tape tabs are overlapping or close to the wearer's midline, the product is too large and the wearer should size down. If the adhesive tabs are on the individual's outer hip or not properly wrapping to the front of the brief, the diaper is too small, and the wearer should size up to the next largest size available.
